Independent and progressive radio is fragile and rare. Fewer and fewer stations allow DJs to choose their own music. Even some of the flagship "public" stations have succumbed to more corporate and consultant-based programming that edge out worthy indie artists. Yes, it takes money and influence to get airplay on many many stations.
